LETTERS, LOGOS & GRAPHICS
Vector or Raster?
Vector art is created by an outline of each element using points,
lines and arcs to define a shape or path. This vector outline
creates the path our machines will follow to cut your letters or
artwork from a variety of materials.
Raster art is created by tiny squares or pixels placed adjacent to
each other to create each elements shape and color. Raster files are
commonly used for photographic images and are defined by the dots per
inch (dpi).
Vector Art -------------------------------Raster Art
Scanned and bitmap images that have not been converted to lines, curves
or paths in a vector format cannot be used for production art. Scott
requires an outline (vector format) for all files originally created
by a scan or paint application (raster format). We ask that all files
are saved or exported as .scv, .eps, .ai, .dxf, .cdr, or .sci file
types and that they include the file extension in the file name.
(Example: filename.eps)

DIGITAL PRINTING ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS

All text will need to be converted to curves. When saving files
choose "no compression" and "do not include header".
If your image has been created in layers, all layers will need to
be flattened.
Note* Prior to sending any digital artwork, except .eps files, please
call to confirm Software versions we are currently accepting.
|
If your artwork has been converted to curves it should appear like the
example shown above.

Files Accepted:
Vector Art
: (lines, arcs, solid fill graphics) we can accept native Corel Draw (.cdr),
Corel Photo Paint (.cpt) Scanvec Inspire (.sci), Scanvec CasMate (.scv),
Adobe Illustrator (.ai), Encapsulated Postscript (.eps), Flexi Sign Pro (.fs)
and Digital Exchange Format (.dxf)
Raster Art:
(pixels, photos, gradient fill graphics) we can accept Corel Draw (.cdr), Corel
Photo Paint (.cpt) Scanvec Inspire (.sci), Adobe PhotoShop (.psd), Tagged Image
File Format* (.tif), Windows bitmap (.bmp), or JPEG (.jpg) files.
*TIF files should be saved under RGB color profile (not CMYK). Do not use LZW
compression
Image Resolution:
Minimum preferred resolution for correctly sized files up to 3' x 4' is 300
dpe (dots per inch).
Files that will need to be enlarged will need to increase the dpi proportionately.
You may want to save images with text at 600 or 800 dpi to avoid bitmapping,
any higher dpi is just making an excessively large file. Scott Signs will
output at 600 dpi.
Example:
Final output 100% = Original file at 300 dpi.
Final output 200% = Original file at 600 dpi.
Final output at 300% = Original file 900 dpi
